Description

  • The Teenage Engineering CH-8 Hatshepsut is a handcrafted wooden singing doll that blends sculptural design, interactive performance, and wireless musical control into a unique choral instrument. Made from solid beech wood with a removable rechargeable speaker module inside, Hatshepsut performs expressive mezzo soprano vocal parts either solo or as part of a synchronized choir of up to 15 connected units via Bluetooth MIDI. It can perform built-in algorithmic choral compositions or be controlled in real time using the OP–1 Field, OP–Z, or other BLE MIDI keyboards, while intuitive gesture controls such as tapping, tilting, or smacking allow playful interaction with playback and volume. Featuring a unique natural wood grain on every unit, 3–4 hours of continuous singing time, and a repertoire inspired by classical and folk choral traditions using counterpoint-based composition techniques, Hatshepsut combines traditional craftsmanship with experimental audio design in a distinctive collectible performance piece.

Full Choir in Formation

The CH–8 choir forms a fully connected ensemble, syncing into one unified system. Controlled via OP–1 Field, OP–Z, or any BLE MIDI keyboard, all eight figures perform together in perfect harmony as a single living choral instrument.

Tap, Tilt or Smack.

The CH–8 responds to touch and movement through built-in sensors—tap to play or pause, tilt to adjust volume, and a firm gesture to stop—turning each figure into a hands-on way to conduct the choir.

Crafted Wood, Modular Sound

Each CH–8 figure is crafted from solid beech wood with a hand-finished natural grain. Inside, a removable, rechargeable speaker module powers each performance, combining craft with modular design.

Compact Performance Engine

Each doll contains a central module that combines speaker, CPU, and BLE control in one unit. It’s rechargeable and delivers up to 4 hours of performance time.
