Description
The Teenage Engineering CH–8 Carlo is a handcrafted wooden singing doll that blends sculptural design with interactive musical performance in a compact, expressive form. Made from solid beech wood with an internal rechargeable speaker module, it delivers rich baritone vocal parts either solo or as part of a synchronized choral system of up to 15 connected units via Bluetooth MIDI. Carlo can perform pre-programmed choral compositions or be played in real time using devices such as the OP–1 Field, OP–Z, or other BLE MIDI keyboards, with intuitive gesture controls including tapping, tilting, and motion-based interaction for playback and volume control. Featuring a unique natural wood grain finish, up to 3–4 hours of battery life, and an algorithm-driven choral repertoire based on counterpoint composition, Carlo brings together traditional craftsmanship and experimental digital performance in a living, evolving musical object.

Full Choir in Formation
The CH–8 choir forms a fully connected ensemble, syncing into one unified system. Controlled via OP–1 Field, OP–Z, or any BLE MIDI keyboard, all eight figures perform together in perfect harmony as a single living choral instrument.

Tap, Tilt or Smack.
The CH–8 responds to touch and movement through built-in sensors—tap to play or pause, tilt to adjust volume, and a firm gesture to stop—turning each figure into a hands-on way to conduct the choir.

Crafted Wood, Modular Sound
Each CH–8 figure is crafted from solid beech wood with a hand-finished natural grain. Inside, a removable, rechargeable speaker module powers each performance, combining craft with modular design.
